Applied Social Science Research Methods

The Certificate in Applied Social Science Research Methods is an interdisciplinary program that trains students in a variety of qualitative and quantitative social science research methodologies, including but not limited to artificial intelligence, econometrics, ethnographic research, forensic analysis, geographic information systems, public policy analysis, and statistical analysis. 

Students will complete a core basic research methods course, 2 elective courses with a methodological focus, and a directed research course where they will apply the knowledge and skills gained to produce a larger research project. 

The program is designed for students seeking employment in data analysis, market research, public policy, or positions within government agencies, non-profit organizations, or research institutes/think tanks as well as for students planning to pursue graduate study in the social sciences.  The program is open to both current undergraduate degree-seeking TAMIU students and non-degree seeking students.

Applicants for admission to the certificate program who are currently undergraduate students at TAMIU must be in good academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Applicants for admission to the certificate program who are not currently undergraduate students at TAMIU will be granted admittance on a case-by-case basis, pending an evaluation of their ability to successfully complete the certificate program.

Students interested in pursuing the Certificate in Applied Social Science Research Methods must notify the Department of Social Sciences as soon as possible but no less than two semesters before completion of their degree. The Department of Social Sciences and the College of Arts & Sciences will provide the documentation certifying the completion of the certificate.
